Hello and welcome to season 2 of Building Blocks for Tots. In our first segment of “Ask the Dentist” I talked about what to expect at the first dental visit. The easy, “look and see” visit I discussed on the show is fairly age specific, primarily for the 1 and 2 year olds. As your child gets older, we begin to incorporate things like a professional cleaning and xrays into the first visit. Many parents ask at what age we begin taking xrays? The answer is “it dependson the individual child.” Xrays can be taken once the child is able to. For some, it can be as early as three years old, while other five or even six year olds still may have trouble. Of course, regardless of age, the most important part of the first visit is to ensure there are no existing problems, and to discuss ways we can prevent problems like cavities from starting. Looking forward to blogging with you all this seaon. Please feel free to submit your questions. I will try to respond as soon as I can.
Dr. Mark
